Abstract
The complete book Who Lies Sleeping? The Dinosaur Heritage and the Extinction of Man by Mike Magee (Dr Michael D Magee), extra material and discussion. The book draws parallels between the current environment crisis and the changes observed in the fossil record that occurred 65 million years ago. The symptoms are similar. What would someone conclude 65 million years ahead noting these symptoms in the ground. Will they conclude that an intelligent race destroyed themselves or that the world had no intelligent beings and the symptoms were entirely natural? Maybe dinosaurs evolved intelligence, founded a brief technological world and destroyed themselves by polluting it. Or did they see it coming and now they are lying sleeping somewhere ready for their chance to resume their hegemony over the earth.

Dr Darren Naish, an expert on dinosaur bones, has a review of Who Lies Sleeping? at his Tetrapod Blog in the context of a more general review of “reptoids”, intelligent or human like reptiles. He calls it “very weird”!

Do meteorites look like civilization from the perspective of sediment geochemistry?
Mark Harvey is aiming to do research in this field and has prepared a research proposal, the abstract of which follows. He has given us permission to post his paper on this website, without the illustrations, and anyone interested can download a zipped Word DOC file of it.
Comparisons can been made between anthropogenic inputs to modern sediments, and geochemical anomalies observed in sediments for past mass extinctions. This paper compiles data from publications on the Cretaceous/Tertiary (K/T) boundary and compares the ancient geochemical signals to modern anthropogenic contamination in recent sediments. Above background concentrations in both industrial age and K/T boundary sediments are noted for Ir, Os, Cr, Ni, As, Zn, soot, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), shocked quartz and tektites. In addition, 13-Carbon depletion is noted for both modern and K/T boundary surface plankton populations. An examination of the Woodside Creek K/T boundary section for the presence of spheroidal carbonaceous particles (SCP), a well known pollution tracer, was undertaken, and no SCP detected. Owing to the limited nature of this study, the comparisons made here are necessarily of a qualitative nature. As such, any of the similarities noted between the modern and KT boundary geochemical record lack relevance when considered in isolation. However, taken together, they make an interesting case for further comparison between these two extinction events.

- Canadian Geological Survey Commission (which should know a good Earth Sciences site when they see it!). You can browse past sites by category.
- WhaleNet—Probably the most interesting parts of this site are the slide shows.
- Net Vet and The Electronic Zoo—Two large indices of animal-related links, both maintained by one (very busy!) veterinarian, Dr. Ken Boschert. Their organisation is a trifle un-scientific - in the zoo there are sections for fictional animals, zoo animals and wildlife alongside more specific pages of links for cats, horses and the like - but it’s still useful, whether you are a vet, an animal owner, or just looking for the sounds of the world’s animals.
- Consciousness Research Laboratory—This Nevada research centre is examining "the frontiers of human consciousness, especially phenomena suggestive of direct mind-matter interaction and extended perceptual capabilities." It includes a Parapsychology FAQ (answers to Frequently Asked Questions), some online experiments, a newsletter and other resources. Take its contents with a grain of salt, though - the centre’s conclusions are controversial.
- The American Psychological Society—Contains lists of Psychology-related links, which will be gradually rated by other psychology users, links to some psychology experiments on the Web plus job listings, selected articles from the APS’ Observer magazine and, of course, information about the society itself.
- Journal of Consciousness Studies—Imprint Academic is the website for the publisher of the Journal of Consciousness Studies and has plenty of information on Consciousness available, including research abstracts and extensive reports from the Tucson conference.
