During the Crimean war, the British government consulted Michael Faraday, the great scientist, about the feasibility of using poison gas. Faraday replied that it was entirely feasible but was unhuman and he would have nothing to do with it. Sadly, most men, even scientists, have a price, and governments and corporations can pay it. Sixty years later, gas was being used in WW1.
