Daring Enterprise: Georg Polti Plots or Storylines - The 36 Dramatic or Tragic Situations
Abstract
Wise Women Discuss—Plot!
Daring enterprise
A conflict, which forms the framework of all drama, is clearly drawn. This situation expresses the poetry of war, of robbery, of surprise, of desperarate chance; of the clear sighted adventurer, of man unlimited by the halters of civilisation, bold, primordial, pioneering.
There are many ways of extending the central scenario: the methods of tracking the human game, bandit or hero; the forces conspiring for disaster;the conditions that make him the victims of his masters; the ways in which revolt may arise; the alternatives to the chosen enterprise, or the way it is handled, etc. Parts borrowed from other situations may also be grafted on with ease. In how many ways might an expedition, say, be changed by varying the motives, the object of the enterprise, the obstacles met, the qualities of the hero, the interrelations of the three elements. Adventurous travels have hardly been touched on.
