Mike, I have the following comments onAskWhy! Is the Bible Fact or Fiction? Christianity Revealed.
I have no doubt that the bible is a real book read by real people who are in search of the truth, however were it some times goes wrong is when you ask the question, do you believe in what you read, then some would say yes but I don’t really understand it. I think it is that and that alone which fails Christianity. because in order to say you believe some thing you don’t understand requires an awful lot of faith and that is not negotiable. I do believe in God I do believe in the words of the bible, but with one small difference and it is that difference that makes my faith in God so strong there is nothing that can challenge it. it came about one day while reading some thing that I thought this is not a man, it is a mountain. maybe you will know what I was reading.from that moment on I gained access to a way of reading that tells stories on a scale you would not think possible, geographical positions places here on earth that were supposed to be long gone, I can now see many things that no man as ever seen.but there is a price to pay for that knowledge, I now wonder of some peoples actions as they tell a different story to those who look upon in ignorance.
Your letter is too cryptic for me to understand. It shows that it is impossible to believe anything that is incomprehensible, contrary to what you say. You are simply saying what we know already about Christians. They believe! No comprehension or proof is needed. The reason goes back to the beginning of Christianity. It was designed for the ignorant and the simple-minded. The Christian God and his chief evangelist said clearly thet Christians should be like children and should disdain knowledge and wisdom in favour of foolishness. Christianity for 1500 years spread the ’truth’ of this, leading to abject misery for most people for most of this time. The ones who were not miserable were the bishops and some priests and monks living off rich landholdings and the income from the platter and the usury they put their ill-gotten wealth into, despite their own teaching against it.
You are coy about your secret reading method, but I would suggest that it is no less deluded than reading the bible as history. There have been many metaphorical, poetic and allegorical readings of the bible, but they are all utterly subjective. No one KNOWS that their allegorical interpretation was intended. It is a personal interpretation that suits the particular reader. Yours suits you, but you have no way of proving it is the right one intended by the Holy Ghost, if he is the true author.
As for wondering about some peoples actions as they tell a different story to those who look upon in ignorance, it is wondering what the shepherds have been up to in relation to the ignorant sheep of Christianity. My whole point is to expose Christianity as a clerical fraud based on people’s ignorance and gullibility.
This oh so sad, yes there have always been and will always be the fat cats who rule over or are head of, but this does not mean they are better and that I should bow kiss there hand, or ask that they hear my sins, they have more than enough blood on there hands as they sip fine wine from cut glass, I do not need a church to prey in and certainly not one that locks it’s doors protecting thing there that are not needed.
So far you are a wise man. Sad or not, the rest puzzles me.
I speak of my love of God, yes whatever I perceive him to be?some time ago I changed one word at the begging of the bible, it changed things considerably, in that it uncovered so much. it is for that my love of god is real and strong, not for those heads who have created there own special and selective club out of my church and the clergy that follow
You are still treating the bible, a manifestly flawed and humanly compiled book, as if it were sacred or infallible, provided it is read in your particular way. Why should it be, and who is certain they have the key to reading it? Why not read The Golden Book of Marcus Aurelius, or Meditations by the same author. How do you know that you might uncover much more? There are many inspired books, and, if the bible is among them, it is among the least inspired. It was written for political propaganda purposes.
When my car broke down I bought a Haynes work shop manual, by following there instruction I repaired my car, I now have faith that they know things about cars.
You have that faith precisely because it is demonstrably true. The bible is not. It is, in much of its content, demonstrably false.
There are words in the bible that are there from old documents, written many years before words like propaganda were used.
That is a typical Christian statement. It is what you want to believe and nothing based on evidence. The bible was written as propaganda. I have pages about it. Read them.
Yes I believe a lot of the translation is wrong, I think it even possible, that a conspiracy to hide things that someone did not want others to know may of taken place.
You defeat your own case, but then there is nothing logical about Christianity. It is the lack of reason. How do you know which bits of “translation” are right? How do you know that this conspiracy does not hide things that utterly refute your belief? You believe despite these possibilities because you believe in spite of all contradictory facts. That is what Christian belief is.
If we ask why a person told from birth, you are a Christian, why do you read the bible, then the answer is simple, Advertising, like Rolex to a time keeper it’sarguablythe best one for the job. one would then have to decide for himself if that were true.
In other words, if Rolex is advertised as the best for the job, you should not be gullible enough to believe it without seeking evidence, or preferably, proof it is, for yourself.
It is my questioning of that, the words and meanings that I now know there is a power so strong so great, this is my God, he came from out of that book. there have been hundreds of searches with hundreds of people using the best tech all trying to find things mentioned in the bible, but no one ever found so much as a stick. I change a word in my search for the truth, Mike there is a power I call God. as for other books that may be read for inner peace relaxation or what ever reasonthen why not.
It is all a mass of contradictions. You question the bible and find it is upheld in some way, even though you agree that not “so much of a stick” in it is true, or real. You find it upheld by changing a word in it, but are too coy to say what you have done. The only change that makes lies into truth is to substitute truth for lies whenever the word lies appears. That is what Christians have done. For them truth is lies and deceit is truth. God’s truth exists only as the pious lies of Christians. Any book can be read for amusement, but only sick minds would want to read much of the primitive mythology that the bible encompasses. God is a brute, a murderer, an inciter to violence, a child abuser and an inciter to rape. What is good about that?
[After several months] How is it that we can not simply take what we see in the words of the bible and try to understand it, in a way that is possible for all the world to understand. Of course the biggest reason is the church, who want only to tell their story, no matter on the distance that may be from the truth. There is no way they can say oops sorry we got it wrong, either with good intent in their search of God, or with evil intent to mislead and cloud the way for those in search of their God. The church as grown to big, it supports peoples lives, to quite a high standard in some cases, so there is no going back.
Well, I agree with much of this. If the bible is the word of God, it seems absurd, to me, to make out that an almighty being cannot express Himself in understandable ways that do not need Catholic doctors or Protestant pastors to interpret them for us. The trouble is that the words of the bible, interpreted simply, are too awful for any Christians to accept. Rich churches cannot accept poverty as a principle of divine blessing—without, as a minimum, a lot of caveats and exceptions that exclude anyone they please from the principle. It is impossible for a rich man to enter heaven, so the Holy Word says, interpreted simply, so the interpreters immediately tell us everything is possible for God! Except that He cannot be allowed to say what He means! There is no going back for the churches, but some individual Christians do realize it is all baloney and try to find a purer, supposedly more original form of the religion, but every time it is bent by the evangelical money-grubbers like Gene Scott, whose death has just been announced. If the Holy Word is correct, he will be paying a big price now for his greedy distortions of it. In reality, the Holy Word is merely a book with no God given authority or power. That is why cynical shepherds do as they like. They know the sheep believe, but they are not so stupid.
For all this, there is a God who is all powerful. Science is great, isn’t it and it will be science that proves there is a God. He may not be what so many now want to see—that is a picture that some people and churches have been painting for many years. It should have been a simple picture, but their job as been to make him untouchable, like fencing off the countryside, then selling people pictures of it.
It is an excellent analogy. If there is anything that merits the appellation of God, it is Nature—the whole of it—but no one looks at Nature with wonder when they are told that the picture they have in their heads of God is more important. If the odious religions, we have, taught as a minimum that Nature is the visible face of God, and it is wicked to disfigure God, then they might at least tell us a useful lie.
When I last wrote I told mike I would write in the new year, because I had something that I had to do and see and I did. I am not such a well educated man, things take a while longer to put into words. Now I am very clear that the son of man was never a man, it was and still is a mountain, seen at a certain time of year. It is science and technology that will show I am right. Every test that I have done to test my theory that include geographical locations and what should be there has shown me to be right. Unlike stories one might read in the bible and translated in such a way as to suit the church, my translation actually agrees with science in most things but in doing that it will show there is a God, who’s story begins when the earth was created. What I have I still do not fully understand, but I know that in order to have withstood time and translation, with the sure and certain knowledge that one day it would be found, it must be great.
Our great modern religions came out of much more primitive ones—in my opinion, and that of many other honest mythographers and historians, out of belief in the sun as God. But people certainly worshipped the sun on mountain tops, because they seemed to them to be nearer to the sun god, and mountains, like Zion and Olympus, often themselves became sacred. You are still being coy, perhaps because you want to formulate your idea carefully yourself before you tell others. When you have done so, I’ll be glad to read what you have to say.
Hi Mike after reading your reply to my last letter, would you not agree that there must be some foundation to all that we believe and I know you say it starts with the worship of sun or the moon or what ever??.just maybe that is no further from God than most of the churches, But to investigate the start, you have to take things away to see why it was put there, when you do you must replace them with something just to see if it will still take the weight and that cannot just be any thing, it must fit, if not the whole house / church / place of worship will fall down. In other words it would not be there. Though I suppose if the house is blocking your view of the sun rise, you may well say, trust me I’m a building surveyor, take that brick out and replace it with straw. Do you think it possible that the Christian religion had a very sound property till they called in an un-reputable building surveyor, after all that happens today, when a page does not fit, well we’ll just tear it out, gay and women bishops being the latest, not forgetting the most powerful man in the world is a born again Christian, read into that last one what you will ??What I am sure of, is that all of the churches pull my God apart and in doing so they do the work of Gods enemy. Take care Mike best regards Mel P.S. yes mike to formulate carefully but the truth is that it really doesn’t matter if people hear what I have to say, believe or take note, it wont make the slightest difference the reason I enjoy talking to you, is that I am then continuingly balancing one against the other, however if all that I have never made an enjoyable read, I will still show soon since I am sure you would see past that.
Religion is ritual basically. The earliest people that began to think, saw things happening regularly in the world, like the sun rising, the seasons and so on. At some stage, they realised that these things were important to their lives because without them they would die. No sunrise would leave everyone in perpetual darkness and fear. No seasons would mean that there would be no food and everyone would die, and so on. These were scary thoughts, and these simple human beings quickly realised that the sun and the seasons were so important to them that they must have their interests at heart. They made gods of them. So far there was no religion, but they must have thought they should show the gods their appreciation of their work, and so they began to invent dramas mimicking the gods’ work, as a sort of thanksgiving. These became festive occasions of celebration when everyone joined in, and religion had started.
Religion was born, and clergymen became an important class of special people in society. The dramas became stylised and the actors who acted them became priests. Now, we had rituals operated by priests who had to be paid for their services. They were servicing the gods. Eventually, sophisticated people no longer appreciated the old rural religions and wanted something more meaningful to them, and so gods became more sophisticated too.
There was no great edifice at first, and so it could not fall over by rearranging the bricks. Mainly the bricks had to be changed as different things became important to people, but essentially it was a question of renaming the bricks and what they had to do. For example, everyone knows that the words used for spirit in the various languages of the bible, simply means breath. Human beings and the animals they depend on must breathe to live, so breath meant life. The biblical myth is that God breathed his breath on to some clay images and made living men out of them. It was the breath of God in this myth that conferred the life, and so living things had the breath of God in them—they had spirit. When they died, the simple folk thought the breath of God returned to God, so dead spirits went back to God—but only if they had been good, most religions decided. Otherwise they really died forever.
So religion is just playacting. There is no God and no spirits. It is all make belief from the time when people were simpler than modern children.
I know that it is my fault, time after time I go over the same ground, searching for a reason though not as to weather I believe in God, I do without reservation. The question for me is were the power comes from? is it something left behind from another time that as more to do with science than the bible, or is it strictly biblical though as I have said to you before, science will simply prove it true. Let me say, I already have the power to blow away what is said on your site. I need it simply because I need all of the questions that you have, the real strength in your site is criticism of the churches, or more accurately those in positions of power who constantly pull vials over there faces, when given a task that may offend there government, they choose instead to offend God. now in that respect it would be fair to say you are no further from the truth than many others. and maybe less offensive to God. But here is a question for you, do you believe that it is possible for a person who is flesh and blood to have a power that is not recognised as being, for want of another word I’m going to say normal. in order as not to confuse that power could be, what we as human see as a positive power or negative, in that viewed from another angle all things are not the same are they, certainly in respect of the churches, not the same as my god will see from the heaven. so is that a Yes or a No,
You seem to be talking about supernatural power, so my answer is no, but a striking match to a native in a primitive society will seem to be supernatural. Just as you say about science, some powers might be shown to be possible but will be natural, even if exceptional ones, and all such powers can be used for good or ill, so they depend on the viewpoint of the user and the observer. These days, science often has a bad press, because the poor hacks who write newspaper columns and the unprincipled placed men that edit them are not clever enough to understand science. Yet science can provide immense power for good or ill. It is not the fault of science how unscrupulous people use it. You might argue the same about Christianity, but an important difference is that Christianity pretends that it is a power solely for good, when the whole of history shows the opposite. science does not make this false claim. When something can be used for good or ill, it is important to make sure that evil people do not get the use of it. Unfortunately, the human race is far too gullible to stop it. Look at them electing Bush in the USA and Blair in the UK, men who are willing to lock other men up forever without saying why. That is the most appalling evil, yet people vote for these crazies, both of whom are Christians.
I think I would be right in saying, that some times when I am asked a question on this subject, I go the long way round in answering it. I think that’s because a lot of the answers are not straight forward, a little like two people from different planets trying to converse, but everything is so different, I also sometimes tend to tell the answer but it may not be obvious there and then. However, mike I firmly believe that so much of what was written in the Bible was lost in translation, or maybe just lost or left out when I say the Bible I mean for the most part the old testament, then of course that means the original Hebrew text. I do not see how it is possible that I can show and answer and I put myself out on a limb when I say this but every question that maters, but then of course, one could say matters to who, of which since I am saying I know more than anyone else, I would have to be the judge of that. There is no one not in the history of the world that can show all of these things. the whole of the Garden of Eden with every thing still in its place, that alone is quite a lot though it is the root buried that now hold the most interest, that was the bibles way of saying kept alive the secret or knowledge the image of what ever it is that looks over the river facing west, with small horn to the front large to the rear, all the other horns that will take there place, the battle wound that is on the face of Gods enemy, which by the way I don’t think the Bible says, it was done from above by the right hand of God, the river with four heads one leading it’s way round the whole of that land, the first sin, in fact everything. Mike none of these things bother or concern me that much, since the day I had faith that they are right. A dream that shows two girls looking out off a certain coast line, they are about sixteen in that one is older than the other and there is a massive wind of which after, I think there is nothing, that is my main interest since they are my granddaughters. Since every other thing shown to me was right, I have no reason to think this is not. Go easy on me mike, what do you think.
I can offer no views about it because it is your experience, and only you can judge that, just as you say. If you are able to see or foresee things that no one else can, then it is a powerful gift. How you use it, as a believer in God, depends on which God you believe in. That is the decision that everyone must make whether these gods are real or only poetic ideas. For everyone can do good or evil things with whatever gifts they have, even normal ones. I am sure you will make the right decisions. You seem to want to, so I hope you will.
