The very thing which is now called the Christian religion existed among the ancients also, nor was it wanting from the inception of the human race until the coming of Christ in the flesh, at which point the true religion which was already in existence began to be called Christian.

Mike, I have the following comments on: AskWhy! on Christianity and Fascism - Christianity Revealed. First off, if you knew what Christianity is all about, you would realize that God says, Thou shall not worship false idols. If Hitler was a Christian how could he worship or believe in any other form of religion.

You begin with a challenging tone, so let me challenge you. Where in the bible do you find the commandment “Thou shalt not worship false idols”? Your phrasing of it implies there are true idols that you can worship. You will find, since you insist on being a stickler for knowing what Christianity is all about, that the authors of the bible thought that no one should worship idols at all, and not just false idols, because idols as a whole were false gods. So, I suggest you do not know what Christianity is all about.

I hate the fact that the word Christian is used so loosely. So many people want to be seen as Christians, but don’t want the responsibility of what that means. A real, born again Christian does not have anything to do with what kind of family you were born into or if you were baptized as an infant. It is a decision you make to follow the word of God.

I thought Christians were against hating and were in favour of loving. You ought to take more care, if you are as good as you think. You obviously have an idea of what Christianity means to you, and apparently you are right and any other Christian, who disagrees, is not a Christian though they believe they are. You are a bigot even for a Christian. All Christians are not born again, whatever it is supposed to mean. Indeed the vast majority of Christians in the world, even, I would guess, the vast majority of born again ones, are Christians because they were brought up in a Christian society, most often by Christian parents, and for no other reason. Others are, you say, not Christians, but nevertheless the bulk of Christians who ever lived are in this category of them, not in your intolerant and exclusive bracket.

Of course, you know everything, doubtless because God told you Himself, just as He tells the born again President, Bush! You might have taken the decision to be a born again Christian yourself, despite your family, but you would have been more independent if you had decided to adopt Buddhism or Confucianism, because they could have been little social pressure on you to do it. In countries where you are persecuted if you are not a Christian, like parts of the USA, it is not surprising that many people will decide to be Christians. Where I am, no one wants to be a Christian, and no one is, except for a few who cannot shake off their upbringing. Hitler was brought up as a Catholic and never renounced his Christian religion. Indeed much of what he stood for is explained by it. That is the point.

Hitler wanted to use Gods name, but all he did was pick and choose which parts of the Bible that would suit his purpose.

Isn’t that what all Christians do? How many Christians have given all they have to the poor, as they were told to? Christians cannot help being hypocrites and the hypocrites were told off by Christ.

It says in the Bible that, Thou shall not kill. I think that verse is pretty straight forward. It means you cannot kill a Jew or a German or an American or Canadian. Thou shall not kill. Period.

Yes, I have read that too. Did you notice that 2000 US soldiers have been killed in Iraq and that was because the born again President sent them there to be killed. OK, he did not kill them himself, but he knew what would happen. What also about the airmen in the aircraft ten miles high dropping 10,000 pound bombs on Iraqi cities. Of course, he did not press the bomb release either. He is innocent, but he prays to God and God talks to him, he tells us. God told Bush to bomb Iraq. Yet God told us not to kill. Bush the born again never read it, or God told him not to worry because He did not mean it. Hypocrites is too kind a word for you all. Madmen is more accurate, to judge by Bush.

If Hitler was a Christian than to whom did he pray? The white-bred image of Jesus we see today is inaccurate. He was a dark skinned Jew. How’s that for irony.

How do you know what colour his skin was? My bible says nothing about the colour of his skin. You make it all up as you go along, lying and lying but convinced a lie cannot pass your lips. Bush is just the same, and Blair possibly worse.

All I ask is that you do not look at all the hypocritical people who claim to be Christians and then say that all of us are the same. I urge you to look up the role of the Confessing church and the German Christians. The Confessing church did not agree with Hitler because of the hypocrisy he demonstrated during the Holocaust. The German Christians were out to mould the church to the teachings of Hitler, not the inspired word of God. I pray you heed what I have said, and look at things from both sides.

I certainly will not look at things from both sides. All I have ever had in my lifetime is a battery of daily lies from Christians, lies that are easily shown to be what they are, if anyone cared to read a little history, but the churches do not want history to impact on belief, so they suppress it, and always did. Christians were rarely persecuted except by each other, and they have persecuted horribly throughout the lifetime of this odious faith. Torture and burnt flesh is what the word Christianity brings to my mind, and Bush carries on the tradition. All churches rejected Hitler after the war, but the essay you read shows that they did not before the war. Many Christian institutions, both Catholic and Protestant supported Hitler, and what is more important, all of those pious believers called the flock, of both sides of the schism loved him. Only a few opposed Hitler during the Nazi rule, and they ended up dead.

Before you go, think about this…

Since the earliest days, the church as an organization has thrown itself violently against every effort to liberate the body and mind of man. It has been, at all times and everywhere, the habitual and incorrigible defender of bad governments, bad laws, bad social theories, bad institutions. It was, for centuries, an apologist for slavery, as it was the apologist for the divine right of kings.
