Fish (fly-replete, in depth of June,
Dawdling away their wat’ry noon)
Ponder deep wisdom, dark or clear,

Fish say, they have their Stream and Pond;

And there (they trust) there swimmeth One
Who swam ere rivers were begun,
Immense, of fishy form and mind,
Squamous, omnipotent, and kind;
And under that Almighty Fin,
The littlest fish may enter in.
Oh! never fly conceals a hook,
Fish say, in the Eternal Brook,
But more than mundane weeds are there,
And mud, celestially fair;
Fat caterpillars drift around,
And Paradisal grubs are found;
Unfading moths, immortal flies,
And the worm that never dies.
And in that Heaven of all their wish,
There shall be no more land, say fish.
In preparing for courtroom testimony, witnesses in the US are coached by their lawyers. They are made to repeat the story over and over again until they get it “right”. On the stand they remember the story they have been trained to tell in the lawyer’s office. Now how does this practice tie in with the taking of the oath on the Holy Bible in these Christian court rooms? If you only tell the court what you have been coached to say, then you cannot be telling “the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth” can you? No wonder they finish with “so help me God”. They’ll need it, if they are right and there is one. It does not yet happen in the UK, but it will.
