Punish the Criminals—Bush and Blair

A pompous and irate US spokesperson publicly boasted about US democracy, and berated the British for allowing people to criticize the Bush administration’s warmongering policy. Top Americans obviously do not understand what democracy is. Democracy does not only allow disagreement, it approves of it. Too many US Congressmen do not understand it, and few had the courage to stand against the mendacious and hypocritical Bush. Congressmen and US Supreme Court Judges should remember that in democracies Presidents are elected by an ungerrymandered majority vote. They can post a clear reminder by punishing the former President as a war criminal, and some of his aides too.
The unprincipled leaders of some of the anti-war factions wanted us to accept that we had to support “our boys”. It quite defeats the rational mind how the practitioners of an unjust, illegal and immoral war could suddenly be exonerated from all responsibility once the war began. Admittedly, their position was difficult, but the war crimes trials after WWII found that soldiers ought to have a conscience. They could not be absolved from conducting an illegal war by claiming they were only following orders.
The evidence against those accused of terrorism and incarcerated without trial is apparently still not suitable for public scrutiny, and so will never appear before a court, according to the US and UK governments. It is also commonplace for politicians and journalists to make assertions without any evidence at all. We are heading towards the justice of the inquisition when any accusation was assumed to be sufficient evidence of guilt, and those so accused had to prove they were innocent. In the UK, it is already the case for fathers subject to the illegalities of the CSA. Needless to say, the public are now ready to accept that unfounded statements are true based on prejudice, and the first sign of this is an inclination towards a simpering piety. Byron wrote that “Christians have burnt each other, quite persuaded that all the Apostles would have done as they did”. After the Christian leadership of the free world set out to incinerate the Middle east, the rest of us have to wonder if we will be next. Obama must releve the fear by pursuing Bush for war crimes. Illeaglity must be seen to be punished in the US, especially when it is by the President.

Protest

Send them to local newspapers too. Pester local and national representatives, MPs, Governors, Senators, PMs, Presidents, anyone important, with as many as you need to get attention. Let them know the killing—and destruction of our own hard won democracy in the name of the “war on terrorism&rdquo—were not in our names! Three Anglican bishops, at the close of the annual Synod in the fifties, went down to the railway station. They stood on the up platform engrossed in a deep controversy. The London express pulled alonside but the three clerics did not notice in their deep and uncharacteristically animated converstion. In a few minutes, doors slammed, and a whistle blew, but the episcopal trinity carried on talking, until suddenly they realized the train was pulling out. Two pushed past the one was closest to the train, and running alongside the carriage, opened the door and jumped one after the other aboard. The platform inspector walked up to the last bishop as he stood looking disconsolately after the train. “That was highly dangerous, and contrary to the rules. I must trouble you for the names of your friends,” said the inspector. “Oh dear, it is all too confusing. Don’t be angry, Inspector. You see, we were caught up in difficult issues, but those two friends of mine only came down to see me off.”
